Róbert Ótott, Vice-President of the Provincial Government and Provincial Secretary handed over fund award Decisions worth 161 million dinars to the local self-governments’ representatives, today. Budgetary funds were awarded based on two calls for proposals, namely for reimbursement of the secondary school students’ transportation costs and for improvement of exercising the right to the official use of languages and scripts in the territory of AP Vojvodina.

Róbert Ótott, Vice-President of the Provincial Government and the Provincial Secretary for Education, Regulations, Administration and National Minorities - National Communities, handed over fund award Decisions worth 161 million dinars to the local self-governments’ representatives, today. The funds were awarded based on two calls for proposals, traditionally announced by the Secretariat, namely for reimbursement of the secondary school students’ transportation costs and for improvement of exercising the right to the official use of the national minorities - national communities’ languages and scripts. For the transportation of secondary school students, 151 million dinars were allocated this year.

"This call for proposals is of particular importance because it directly affects the demographic picture of Vojvodina, reduces the burden on the family budget, and above all enables secondary school students to have equal access to education, regardless of where they live. We are talking about almost 20,000 students commuting to another place every day in order to attend classes. It is our obligation to provide them concrete, systemic support,” pointed out Mr Ótott, Vice-President of the Provincial Government and Provincial Secretary, adding that this year all 45 local governments were supported in AP Vojvodina.

The second Call concerns the preservation and promotion of the right to official use of languages and scripts of national communities. For these purposes, 10 million dinars were allocated to 27 local self-government units.

"It is our permanent obligation to enable the equal use of languages of all national communities in official communication. In this way, we do not just comply with the constitutional and legal provisions, but build a society in which cultural diversity is both a value and an advantage. Thanks to this Call, municipalities and cities have the opportunity to finance the installation of bilingual and multilingual signs, print official forms and publications, and develop electronic government in the languages that are in official use." - emphasized Ótott.

During the period 2016 - 2025, through these two Calls, significant budget funds were allocated, as much as 1.52 billion for reimbursement of the secondary school students’ transportation costs, and more than 82 million dinars for the Call for exercising the right to official use of languages and scripts.

By these measures, the Provincial Government shows that it pursues a consistent and responsible policy of supporting local self-governments - both in improving the conditions for accessible and equal education for all children, and in preserving and fostering multilingualism and multiculturalism as an important part of Vojvodina's identity.

Vice-President of the Provincial Government and Provincial Secretary Róbert Ótott handed over fund award Decisions together with Deputy Provincial Secretary Slađana Bursać.
