Provincial Government has provided one hundred and fifty-one million RSD for secondary school students’ transportation
Vice-President of the Provincial Government and Provincial Secretary for Education, Regulations, Administration and National Minorities - National Communities, Mr Zsolt Szakállas, awarded the contracts worth one hundred and fifty-one million RSD to all 45 local self-governments in the AP Vojvodina, today. The funds are intended to reimburse transportation costs to 19,649 secondary school students, who use intercity transportation from their place of residence to school and back, on an everyday basis.
“The fact that there are around twenty thousand students who receive secondary education travelling to another town or municipality, that we have children-commuters who have to travel quiet a distance to come to their classes and then return back home, naturally elicit our particular interest and desire to help as much as we can” - Mr Szakállas pointed out.
The calls for proposals for reimbursement of transportation costs to secondary school students have been launched since 2002, and significant funds have been allocated for the purpose, which has been a way of sending a support message to both parents and their children.
“Municipalities have committed a certain amount of funds in their budgets, in accordance with their financial possibilities, and the competent secretariat has allocated funds up to the full amount needed. This call for proposals is very important to us and we will consistently continue to support all local self-government units in reimbursement of transportation costs in order to provide uninterrupted education to our students-commuters in Vojvodina. " - stated the Vice-President of the Provincial Government and Provincial Secretary.
The Call was open from 19 January to 18 February this year. The criteria, stipulated by the Rulebook on Conditions of Reimbursement of Transportation Costs to Secondary School Students in the AP Vojvodina, were the following: The number of students travelling from their place of residence to the school daily; distance of travelling; the level of development of the municipality and finally - the possibility of financing from the municipal or city budget.
